A chain of mountains and hills nestle Theog which is situated on N.H.-22 at a distance of about 35 kilometres from Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The bewitching snow-clad mountains, valleys, apple orchards are enough, to use Coleridge's words, to "lull anyone to willing suspension of disbelief." Government Degree College Theog, perched atop 'Chundu Hill' in Theog itself, wears a majestic look, and its beautiful environs and academic ambience envelop even those who have the propensity to go wayward. The educational landscape of this institution has seen a rapid transformation in the last twelve years. It was established vide Notification No. EDN-A-Chha (15)-13/97 dated 11-12-97 of the Government of Himachal Pradesh in 1998. The first academic session began in the year 1999 when admissions were made to B.A.-1st year class of the three-year degree course with a meagre strength of about 100 students. The Science and the Commerce Faculty were introduced in the session 2002-03, and it is now catering to the educational needs of about 820 students. The infrastructure development has been impressive and the tiny College which started functioning from the old structure of the previous school is now housed in a tall building having an imposing structure. The College has sufficient number of class-rooms, common room for girls, laboratories, and a computer laboratory having internet facility, that is being provided by HIMSWAN, to generate computer awareness. The college library is well-stocked and includes a large reading- room. Imparting quality education to students, who earlier had to traverse long distance to Shimla to seek the benefits of higher education, is the avowed object of this College. Besides this, the College is committed to inspire youngsters to achieve academic excellence and develop discernment so that they always take right decisions. Students are groomed in such a way that they adjust easily to changing social milieu without forgetting about the traditional values.
